Job Function: This position is responsible for flying drones to develop a GPS model of the project site. Once the models are developed utilizing Carlson software, material takeoffs will be delivered to the project team (Project Manager, Construction Manager and Superintendent). Civil surveyor will be onsite to layout all boundaries and map the site entirely for the project team. This position will create all necessary models for pre-construction, construction, and post-construction progress. Topographic documentation will be required to be produced for the Project Team and our customer. The candidate must be experienced in civil survey, GPS modeling, Smart Construction Equipment, QA/QC documentation and must have a valid drone pilot’s license. This position requires a minimum of 50% travel.
Job Description:
- Must be able to physically visit project site and conduct field surveys, collect boundary data, elevations, topographical features using survey equipment including GPS and drones
- Ability to clean and filter raw GPS data to produce accurate 3D models with accurate quantities
- Must be knowledgeable of CAD software, pix4DMatic, pix4DSurvey, Trimble and Topcon base stations as well as Carlson software; must be able to set up field control points and base stations
- Analyze and collect survey data to include distances, angles, elevations while ensuring accuracy and consistency
- Must be able to construct 3D grading models for the smart construction equipment, download it to the respective machines and ensure its accuracy
- Must be able to develop pile installation models and program the respective pile drivers
- Confer with supervisory personnel, owners, contractors, subcontractors, vendors or design professionals to discuss and resolve matters, such as design defects, inaccurate quantities, work procedures, complaints, or construction problems.
- Prepare civil and mechanical construction takeoffs for the projects and work with PM to ensure all quantities are accurately identified
- Work with PM and Superintendent to outline crew makeup, project duration and equipment required; participate in the job workup; fly drone of project site prior to submitting final price proposal
- Assist in planning, scheduling, and coordinating construction project activities to meet deadlines.
- Inspect or review projects to monitor compliance with safety codes, environmental regulations, or other regulations.
- Turn in weekly KPA’s and project audits when visiting the field
- Spend time on projects and work with Superintendent and Foremen to understand construction challenges
- Study job specifications, using computer models, to evaluate appropriate construction methods and cost-effectiveness of plans; must have ability to read and understand construction drawings and mechanical specifications of our customers
- Work with Quality personnel to implement and manage quality control and environmental protection programs. Understand prior to the project starting, what quality requirements are needed for the job
- Work with PM and Superintendent to implement new or modified plans in response to delays, bad weather, or construction site emergencies. Provided required documentation to the PM so they can effectively manage the change order process with customers.
- Must have ability to communicate verbally and document all important conversations via email
- Interpret, install and explain survey stakes and GPS models to representatives of the owner or developer, including administrative staff, workers, or clients.
- Perform pre-construction assessments by ensuring all survey markers are in place and GPS models have been developed and downloaded into the smart construction equipment such as conceptual cost estimating, rough order of magnitude estimating, feasibility, or energy efficiency, environmental, and sustainability assessments.
- Ensure field personnel are aware of project boundaries and understand the modeled quantities required to complete the project
- Requisition and/or manage survey supplies or materials to layout construction projects. Write purchase orders and close out purchase orders
- Attend safety meetings and participate/lead stretch and flex exercises
- Work directly with project managers to help implement project goals.
- Oversee variable survey and GPS modeling aspects of projects and provide direct assistance to project manager/Superintendents to ensure timely project execution.
- Review project implementation and gather data on project execution; fly drone to confirm quantities
