CAD Tech

Position Summary:

This position assists and standardizes CAD and modeling workflows across renewable energy construction projects. This role is responsible for managing drawing production, survey data integration, and 3D modeling deliverables that support estimating, construction, machine control, and as-built documentation. CAD Tech must have a strong background in Civil 3D, survey data workflows, and construction modeling, and develop efficient systems that ensure accuracy, consistency, and scalability across multiple projects.

 

Job Description:

  • Develop, implement, and maintain company-wide CAD standards, templates, and best practices
  • Standardize workflows for survey data, surfaces, alignments, and construction modeling
  • Ensure consistency across all drawings, models, and deliverables
  • Create and maintain layer standards, naming conventions, and file structures
  • Development of 3D grading surfaces and construction deliverables
  • Support machine control modeling workflows (Topcon, Trimble, etc.)
  • Review and approve CAD files for accuracy, completeness, and constructability
  • Ensure models align with survey control, coordinate systems, and project benchmarks
  • Manage integration of field survey data (GNSS, drone, LiDAR) into CAD environments
  • Ensure proper handling of coordinate systems, datums, and units (U.S. ft vs International ft)
  • Validate incoming data from survey teams and third-party engineers
  • Support localization workflows and ensure field-to-finish accuracy
  • Production of as-built drawings, surfaces, and reports
  • Ensure deliverables meet client, engineering, and internal quality standards
  • Coordinate with field teams to verify accuracy of installed work vs modeled data
  • Provide training on Civil 3D, Carlson, and modeling workflows
  • Act as the go-to resource for troubleshooting CAD and modeling issues
  • Collaborate with Project Managers, Superintendents, and Engineers
  • Review plans and specifications to identify design issues, conflicts, or gaps
  • Support estimating with quantities, takeoffs, and constructability reviews
  • Assist with change orders by validating quantities and model impacts
  • Other duties as assigned

Experience Required: 

  • Civil CAD Design and Modeling (5+ years)
  • Leadership or Senior CAD role (3+ years)
  • Survey Data Processing & Surface Development
  • Supporting Machine Control Models

Preferred:

  • Solar or Renewable Energy Construction Projects
  • Topcon | Trimble Workflows
  • Drone Photogrammetry & LiDAR Date Integration
  • As-Built Development and QA/QC Processes

 

 Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Surveying, Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field: Preferred

 

Computer/General Skills:

  • Proficient with Autodesk Civil 3D, Carlson Software (preference in construction workflows)

 

Certifications & Licenses:

  • Safety certifications required by client

 

 Other Requirements:

  • Strong understanding of Coordinate Systems, Datums, and Geoid Models.
  • Field-to-finish survey workflows
  • Earthwork and Grading Principles
